About this product

The Belly theme is a WordPress shop theme by roadthemes, made for WooCommerce stores that sell wine, food and drink. Despite "multipurpose" in its full name, the design is aimed at wine merchants, delis and drink shops, with four home page layouts, product carousels, quick view and filters. This page is for Belly 1.1.2, released on January 5, 2025. On GPLGuide you download the original theme file to install on your own online stores.

Good for: wine shops, craft beer and spirits sellers, delis, bakeries, coffee roasters and specialty food stores that want a ready WooCommerce design built around large product photos and simple browsing.

Requirements: WordPress and the free WooCommerce plugin. The item page lists the Belly theme as compatible with WordPress 4.9 to 6.7 and WooCommerce 5 to 9. Version 1.1.2 fixed PHP 8 issues, and no minimum PHP version is published. Under "Extra plugins" the page names premium plugins from other makers: WPBakery Page Builder (called Visual Composer there), Mega Main Menu, Revolution Slider, Essential Grid and Templatera.

What the Belly theme does

Belly gives you a finished storefront for a food or drink business. There are four predefined home page layouts, and each can run boxed or full width. The look is controlled from theme options built on the Redux framework, where you choose colors and Google Fonts, or start from one of the color presets. Sample background images come with the design.

The rest of the site is covered too. You get contact, about and services pages, a 404 page and three blog layouts that support post formats, so a tasting note, a video from the vineyard or a recipe gallery each get a fitting layout. Unlimited custom sidebars can sit on the left or the right, and the theme has places for social and Instagram links and a Mailchimp sign-up form.

The layout is responsive, so the store works on phones as well as desktops, and the package includes PSD files. The item page lists the Belly theme as compatible with WPML for translated stores and with The Events Calendar, which is useful for tastings and in-store events.

Selling wine, food and drink with the Belly theme

Drinks and gourmet food are bought on looks and detail, and the Belly theme leans on that. Product images can be zoomed and opened in a lightbox, and a quick view window lets a shopper check the price and description of a bottle without leaving the category page. The cart uses AJAX, so adding a case of wine doesn't reload the page.

The shop page switches between grid and list view. Grid suits a bakery with strong photos, while list view helps a wine merchant whose customers compare grape, region and price line by line. Filters by size, color and material are built in, which covers bottle sizes such as half bottles and magnums, or red, white and rosé as colors.

Product carousels let you push a featured range on the home page, such as summer wines or a new coffee origin. Customers can save bottles to a wishlist, which the item page lists as an optional feature, and a products compare option lets them put two or three similar items next to each other before choosing.

The image zoom and product gallery come from YITH plugins that the changelog shows being updated with the theme. Version 1.1.0 updated the YITH product gallery and image zoom plugin, and 1.1.1 fixed image zoom again along with the testimonials.

Page building and layout in the Belly theme

The header and footer layouts are made with WPBakery Page Builder, the same editor you use for your other pages. That means changing the header, adding a promo bar or rearranging footer columns happens in a visual editor instead of in PHP files. Templatera, a template add-on for WPBakery, is also on the extra plugins list.

For navigation the theme uses Mega Main Menu, which lets you show many categories at once, such as wine by country, beer by style or food by course. Revolution Slider is there for banners and slideshows, and Essential Grid for grid layouts of posts or other content.

These are premium plugins from other companies. The item page names them but doesn't explain whether their licence keys are included or how they get updates, so plan to keep the versions that suit the theme and test any change on a copy of the site first.

Blog, events and sign-ups in the Belly theme

A food or drink shop sells better when it tells a story, and the Belly theme gives you three blog layouts for that. Post formats let you publish a normal article, a gallery from the harvest or a short video without building a custom page each time. Pair the blog with its own sidebar for categories and recent posts, and keep the shop sidebar for filters.

The Events Calendar is on the compatibility list, so tastings, cooking classes or brewery tours can live on the same site as the shop. For email, the item page lists MailPoet and Mailchimp for WordPress, and Contact Form 7 handles enquiry forms, for example for wedding wine orders or catering requests.

Store ideas you can build with the Belly theme

Every idea below uses tools named on the developer's page, so there is nothing extra to find.

  • Online wine merchant: list view for the full range, the size filter for half bottles, standard bottles and magnums, and compare for two wines from the same region.
  • Craft brewery shop: a mega menu with columns for lager, ale, stout and gift packs, plus a carousel of new releases on the home page.
  • Artisan bakery: grid view with large photos, quick view for ingredients and a blog layout for weekly specials.
  • Coffee roaster: a home slider for the latest origin, the size filter for bag weights and a Mailchimp sign-up for subscribers.
  • Deli with tasting evenings: The Events Calendar for tasting dates and an Instagram link for photos from each event.
  • Shop for tourists: translate products and pages with WPML so visitors can order in their own language.

Start with one home layout and a short product range, check the cart and checkout, then add sliders, carousels and events once the basics work. If you also sell to restaurants or offices, a trade enquiry page built in WPBakery with a Contact Form 7 form needs no extra plugins.

What's new in the Belly theme 1.1.2

Version 1.1.2 was released on January 5, 2025. It fixed PHP 8 issues and updated the theme for the WooCommerce and WordPress versions available at that time. It is the newest version on the item page.

The versions before it were maintenance releases. Version 1.1.1 (April 28, 2023) fixed image zoom and testimonials and moved support to WooCommerce 7. Version 1.1.0 (December 10, 2021) updated the YITH product gallery and image zoom plugin. Version 1.0.9 (July 19, 2021) refreshed the Roadtheme import data and fixed a bug in the Roadtheme helper plugin, and 1.0.8 (March 18, 2021) added support for WooCommerce 5.1.

Good to know before you buy

If you sell alcohol, note that the item page doesn't mention an age check or any alcohol-specific setting. Many countries require one, so you may need a separate plugin for that. The same goes for delivery date pickers for fresh food, which aren't listed either.

The Belly theme is built for WPBakery Page Builder, and Elementor isn't on its compatibility list. Its compatibility runs to WordPress 6.7 and WooCommerce 9, and the last update came in January 2025. We haven't tested it on newer releases, so set it up on a staging site first.

The name says multipurpose, but the description and layouts are aimed at food and drink. For a fashion or electronics store you would replace most of the imagery and colors, so a theme designed for that kind of shop may suit you better.

The item page mentions sample background images but says nothing about the licensing of the product photos in the demo. Use your own photos for bottles and dishes. We found no service on the developer's servers, such as a cloud template library or AI tool, mentioned on the page.

Belly theme from GPLGuide vs the official subscription

The Belly theme is sold by roadthemes on ThemeForest, where the Regular licence costs $48. That includes future updates through the marketplace and six months of item support from roadthemes, and support can be extended to 12 months for $13.50. Under Envato's licence for this item, its PHP code is licensed under the GPL.

From GPLGuide you get the original Belly 1.1.2 theme file, with the same home layouts, shop tools and Redux options. The file from GPLGuide comes with the license key already activated, so there is no key to enter.

Item support from roadthemes, refunds under Envato's rules and updates in your Envato account only come with a ThemeForest purchase. If you expect to need the developer's help, buy the licence there.

How to install the Belly theme on WordPress in four steps
Setting up the Belly theme with WooCommerce in four steps.

For a first setup, finish WooCommerce's own settings for tax, shipping and payment, then create a few product categories and attributes such as bottle size or color so the filters have something to work with. Add ten real products with good photos, pick the home layout that fits your shop and test quick view, the wishlist and the AJAX cart on a phone. We couldn't find the developer's documentation online, so the sample content is the easiest guide to how pages are put together.

Keeping it up to date

Updates from GPLGuide are manual. When we list a new version of the Belly theme, download it from your account and upload it under Appearance, Themes, Add New Theme, Upload Theme. WordPress offers to replace the installed copy, while your products, orders and pages stay in the database. Keep custom code in a child theme so it survives the update. If you spot a newer release that isn't here yet, use the Request Item/Update page.
